Prebirth
November 20th Doctor Visit
Today was the first of my weekly doctor appointments. It was pretty normal for the most part. He measured my tummy and listened to the baby's heartbeat. I asked some questions about the hospital (Christ Hospital) and found out that they don't restrict visitors much and that the baby can be in my room as long as I want with anyone that is visiting. Additionally, all the rooms on the maternity floor are now private so that the new daddy can stay too if they chose to.
But then he asked me if I was interested in induced labor. He said that there isn't anything wrong to force me to be induced but he wanted to give me the option since it is going to be right around Christmas. This would also give us the chance to choose which doctor delivers the baby. We've done a little research and talked about it a lot. We haven't made up our minds yet but it is something that we are considering seriously. Less stress = winning situation.
Hospital Visit
I did have to go in to the hospital for overnight observation on Tuesday November 6th. I originally checked in because I was short of breath Monday during school and again that evening at work. Tuesday when I went to work at noon, the shortness of breath continued and caused dizziness.
I went in as the doctor recommended and while I was there, the baby had a 2 minute decel, which from what I understand, was a dip in the heart rate that corrected itself and only happened the one time. However, Dr. Luke said that he'd rather be safe than sorry so I was kept overnight hooked up to monitors for the baby and my blood-oxygen level.
I went in for an ultrasound on Wednesday so that they could check the baby and the fluid around it. They said that the baby looked normal and healthy and estimated the weight around 5 lbs. After Dr. Luke reviewed the ultra sound results, he released me.
The Baby Shower on October 13th.
Two months to go!
Say buh-bye to the wardrobe!
Maternity clothes, here I come! The baby is growing which means that my tummy is starting to grow now too! I can no longer squeeze into my day to day clothes. Here is a picture of me at about 5.5 months. And yes, that is Josh's hand in the picture. He just wants to touch it all the time!
I've been feeling the baby move since about week 20 and now Josh is excited that it's moving enough for him to feel it too. It's definitely a strange feeling that nothing compares to.
Now, at 31 weeks, we are starting to get nervous and excited! We can't wait to meet the little person! The movements are very strong and sometimes you can even see my tummy move when (s)he kicks/punches hard enough!
Ultrasound!
On August 9th, we were able to see our baby for the first time. The ultrasound went well. They said that everything looked normal and the baby is 1 lb. 1 oz. right now and the due date appears to be accurate. They gave us a few pictures to take home with us and we are looking forward to sharing them with you.
As for the monthly doctor appointments, the baby's heartbeat sounds strong. The doctor says that it's a quick heartbeat, which according to the old wives tale, it's a girl. However, I'm only gaining weight in the front and carrying low, which according to the old wives tale, it's a boy. Hehehehe.
Since everyone wants to guess at the sex, I posted a blog up just for you! Guess your hearts out and when the baby is born, We'll see who made an accurate prediction!
